Jan Cortenbach graduated in Animal Science in 1988 from Wageningen Agriculture University in the Netherlands. After graduation he left the Netherlands to gain international experience and lived and worked in several countries in different field of animal production. Among these countries were Mexico (ruminant research), Netherland (teacher in poultry production), Yemen (poultry management), Indonesia (poultry management , training and extension), Colombia (farm management , training and extension) and Hungary (poultry production and quality of broilers) in which he all worked and lived for several years.
In 1997 Jan moved to China where he wasproject manager for the ministry of Agriculture of the Netherlands to set up and run a training and demonstration centre on pigs and poultry. (SIDAC, Sino Dutch Animal Husbandry Training and Demonstration Centre).
After conclusion of the project he started as COO for Biomin (feed additives) to set up their China production location, market network and office in Shanghai.
In 2005 he started working for De Heus in China, to generate export of concentrates, premixes and specialty feeds to South east Asia (Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam), and was from 2006 also involved in the Joint venture of Wellhope as the Chief Technical Officer for De Heus in China. Currently he is responsible for technical know-how transfer in feed milling and mixing, farm management , and formulation etc.Since 2016 Jan is also Technical advisor for De Heus Asia (Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, India, Cambodia, Philippines).
Just honored with a Chinese Green card in 2018 for his long term contribution in the Chinese animal husbandry development.
Frequently invited for to deliver a lecture in international seminars in Pig, Poultry or Dairy Science in South east Asia.
Was 13 times national Champion in Athletics (race walking), broke 14 times the national record and until today still national record holder 50 Km and 100 km Race walk. Participated in World Championship (1987) and was member of the Olympic team (1988).
